A couple crammed into a double bed, or too limited in a queen, a king sized bed stuff of fantasy: acres of space to roll over in, ability for you (and your partner) to sleep flat on your back, space for children to curl up in morning without hitting you from side. But how big is a king-sized bed, really. There are two types of king-size mattresses: standard and California. Sheets and bed frames for standard and California king beds are not interchangeable, since they differ in both length and width.
A standard king sized bed mattress is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. A California king mattress is longer by 4 inches (84 inches long), but narrower by 4 inches (72 inches wide). King- size mattresses vary in depth from about 9 inches of memory foam or innerspring cheaper models, 17 inches or more for deluxe pillow-top models.

If you live in an apartment or small house, a king sized bed fits comfortably in your bedroom. When measuring bedroom, remember to add several inches around bed to account for width of headboard, footboard and rails (get exact dimensions of bedroom furniture you want from store while you shop). You will also want to leave at least 2 meters of space on each side of bed, so that you and your partner can climb in and out easily.
